The swim of the Medes Islands is always very special for Neda el Món. It is a beautiful event, in a privileged location where the goal is to help raise funds and amplify the work of La Marató de TV3.
This year we will live the event very intensely because the subject touches directly to the heart of Neda el Món. That is why this year we want to dedicate the swim to our coach, Boris Pallarès, who for several weeks is fighting against the disease.
We have no doubt that we will see him in Fukuoka in 2021!

On June 16th, a group of swimmers and swimmers flocked to the island of Sa Dragonera. For two years now Neda el Mundo opts for a smaller format of passage that aims to claim the enjoyment of the sea, rather than the competitive aspect of open water crossings.
This year, the participants of the swim were able to swim in a practically flat sea and with unbeatable wind conditions. The jellyfish took their heads mainly to the final part of the journey and made the guitza some swimmers and swimmers, who brave, completed the 9,500 meters of course.
Thank you very much to MallorKayak to come and support our swimmers, and THANKS, swimmers for your confidence!

On June 16th we will swim in Sa Dragonera!
Sa Dragonera is located in the westside of Mallorca, opposite the western coast of the municipality of Andratx, and very close to the town of Sant Elm. It is a discreet little islet, which has the beauty of home-made things.
The Sa Dragonera Natural Park is formed by the islets of Es Pantaleu, Sa Mitjana, and the Calafats reefs. It is one of the Balearic islets with the greatest conservation interest due to its bio-ecological and landscape aspects. Without a doubt it is a spectacular swim!
The area where we will swim, Sa Dragonera, is a long islet (4 kilometers) and quite narrow (one kilometer maximum), with a surface area of ??288 ha and 352 meters high at its peak. It is a prolongation of the Serra de Tramuntana, and it reproduces on a small scale the basic structural features of it, inclined towards the southeast and cliffs to the northwest.
On June 16 we will swim around the Sa Dragonera Park on a 9.5K crossing.
If you want to register, do not hesitate and click here.

The eighth edition of Swim Barcelona by Neda el Món was held yesterday in a day marked by complicated maritime conditions, which forced the Neda el Món team to do a shorter swim in a controlled area on Mar Bella Beach.
The swim could finally be carried out in Mar Bella in a 1.500m circuit. Swimmers of the 5.700m swim made three laps around it, while participants of the 3,600m did two.
In addition, the Sports Council of Barcelona and Neda el Món organized short 50m,100m and 200m swims for young swimmers. A total of 180 children could swim yesterday in Mar Bella. The Kids race were also affected by sea conditions. In their case they were carried out on the right side of the breakwater of Mar Bella, where the sea was much calmer.
We take this opportunity to thank all the participants for their assitance, Neda el Món's Sea Operations team and the coastguards. Also, we would like to mention our partners: Zone3, Nutritape, VITAM, SafeCare, Tuath Studio, El Quinto Meta, el Centre Municipal de Vela i l'Ajuntament de Barcelona, as well as all the volunteers who made the event possible.
Thank you so much!

Safety is a basic tenet in Neda el Món, that is why we have decided to add the Safe Sea cream to our online store. Safe Sea contains unique and patented ingredients that protect against jellyfish stings in several ways:
-
Its slippery texture makes it difficult for the stinging tentacles to get a grip.
-
Chemical (stoppers) in the lotion block up the sites where the stinging process is activated.
-
Other inhibitors (stoppers) block the chemical pathway.
-
Chemical stoppers reduce pressure in the stinging cells, preventing the jellyfish from firing its stings.
Safe Sea prevents the stimulation of jellyfish tentacles after contact with the human skin.
Other features:
-
UVB / UVA Protection. Safe Sea contains physical, chemical and biological filters which reduce the effects of solar radiation on the skin.
-
Very water resistant. Clinical trials have proven that Safe Sea is very water resistant, enduring up to 80 minutes of aquatic activities. In case of minimum contact with water, Safe Sea's protection is prolonged.
-
Preservative-free. Safe Sea’s formula is sterile, so there’s no need for toxic preservatives such as parabens.
-
Water-in-Oil emulsion. Safe Sea’s Water-in-Oil emulsion gives the skin an excellent feel and keeps it hydrated.
-
Contains vitamins B and E. Vitamins B and E, which are present in Safe Sea, are important antioxidants for the human body.
-
With Bioplasma, GAG and Glycoproteins. Safe Sea’s formula contains Bioplasma-FA, the plankton extract with patented sting inhibitors. Together with GAG and glycoproteins, they improve the skin’s hydration and have anti-aging and anti-stress properties.
Available in two different formats in our online store.

Nutritape® is the first sports transdermal patch that feeds your muscles while training or competing in order to achieve better performance. So far, its application has been a great success in sports such as the trail, triathlons and mountain marathons, and now Neda el Món wants to introduce Nutritape® into the open water swimming world.
Nutritape® is a transdermal patch that contains branched amino acids (BCAA) and vitamins B1 and B5 that are absorbed through the skin and prevents stomach upset, insulin peaks and cramps during demanding and prolonged sports practice. Its effects start after 5 minutes of placing it on your skin and last for up to 20 hours, so you do not have to take Nutritape® off at the end of the race or training, since in addition, it helps you your muscles to recover.
The winners of the Swim Barcelona race will receive a Nutritape® blister as a their gift so they can try it to train or compete in open waters. Without a doubt, this is a good incentive to swim faster and get this great gift!

For distance swimmers one physiological factor is key: your lactate threshold. If you improve your lactate threshold pace, you will swim the same distance with less time. When training, your ability to sprint or work anaerobically above threshold is quite irrelevant when it comes to swimming long distances.
In order to improve your lactate threshold you should swim sets at your current threshold pace or just below it. Do not make the mistake of training above lactate threshold in short sharp swim sets - that isn't nearly as effective.

Many times we hear that someone suffers the swimmer's shoulder but we do not know exactly what it is or how it is produced, much less how it can be avoided.
This injury, also known as the subacromial syndrome, is the narrowing of the space between the head of the humerus and the acromion (a bony relief that belongs to the scapula) and, as a consequence, compresses the structures that pass through it such as the rotators’ cuff, the tendon of the biceps and the subacromial deltoid bursa.
In swimming there is a high risk of suffering from it, since the subacromial space narrows when the arm is raised above the head in a repetitive manner, as in the stroke of the crawl or freestyle. Other causes can also be scapular hypermobility, poor technique or poor training in which muscle recovery or muscle balance is not taken into account, especially if paddles or other materials are used to increase water resistance.
The pain is characterized by pain from the outside and from the front of the shoulder, in movements of abduction and external rotation of the shoulder, as it rests on the affected side and, even, nocturnal pain may come to wake up.
In the case of noticing such symptoms is important to go to the doctor and the physiotherapist to start treatment. It also helps to apply a cold patch, from 5 to 10 minutes, due to its anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effect.
After recovery, resuming training sessions must be progressive. In order to prevent the injury it should be taken into account the muscle balance, the dosage of training loads and perform well the stretching technique.

In Tips for SwimAddicts we will tell you what most of the times is not explained duraing training sessions, but belong to the unwritten rules of the swimming world.
#1 Be Brave When Training
If you want to put yourself out there during the training sessions, be brave, and reach your max for the most part of the session: do not wait until the end! Help the colleagues who swim in front of you who will surely appreciate if you interlock from time to time. It is not necessary to move past them in the last round of series, after they have done ALL the work. Tell them before you start the series and agree on how you will do them. Touching the feet of the swimmers in front of you is great for you, but if you want to achieve results leave 5" (at least) with respect to the swimmer in front ... If you train with a group and you feel identified with what we explain, we propose a challenge for you: Offer yourself to be the first in doing one round of series. Be brave!!
DO YOU NEED A GROUP TO TRAIN? Check us out.
Tell us what you need and we can assess you.
