A total of 85 swimmers took part on Sunday of the 1st edition of the SwimBarcelona Sant Silvestre swim, where we were able to enjoy an excellent and Christmassy open water swimming day.

With distances of 1.000, 1.500 and 2.500 m, the swim was held according to the plan and the swim addicts counted with the support of the SUP Barcelona paddle surfers. 

The sea temperature was 17 °C but the radiant sun that shone throughout the morning helped to make the cold more tolerable. The warm Christmas Aneto broth that was waiting for the swimmers on the arrival also contributed a lot.

The 5th Zoggs L'Estartit Medes Islands swim for the TV3 Marathon that will be held next November 2nd will be once more in memoriam of our friend Alex Lorente.

Alex was a marine biologist and technical in the Natural Park of Montgrí, Medes Islands and Baix Ter, as well as terrestrial and underwater nature photographer. From the very beginning Alex believed in this swim project and actively participated in the first two editions.

This swim is for you, Alex! We miss you!

Next november, 2nd, after the 5th Zoggs L'Estartit Medes Islands, there will be a popular lunchnext to the swimmers arrival area.

The organization will prepare a salad for starters and sausage and beans as main course (a typical catalan meal). It will also include desserts, bread, wine and water.

Yesterday we closed two exciting weeks in the Strait of Gibraltar, where 100% of our swim addicts succeeded to swim it across.

21 swimmers in total coming from everywhere in our third year in the Strait.

Xavier Levy, Ingrid Basso, François Peyrot and Gabriel Acosta started on Monday at 9:51 am the Strait of Gibraltar crossing. It was a bright day with a calm sea and they were able to swim quite a few meters without major problems.

When they were about 4 km to finish the swim, Ingrid had to pull out due to an indisposition. Besides that, the 4 swimmers had to be uploaded to the boat momentarily due to the sighting of 2 sharks

Shortly after, Xavier, François and Gabriel were able to continue the crossing and arrived to Punta Almansa in 3 hours and 56 minutes. Such an excellent time!

Gabriel also achieved a small milestone in the history of his country, since he has become the first Colombian to swim across the Strait of Gibraltar. In addition, he did it for a great cause, which was raising money for the children in his country. Congratulations, champ!

Ingrid recovered shortly after and I will try it again!

Last night they were greeted with applause at the airport by their families and friends. With them was also our coach Jonathan Gomez, who is beside himself with pride!

Excellent swim today in the Straits of Gibraltar with a 100% success of our swim addicts!

Antonio Sanchez Vilalta, Anna Muñoz and David Gregoratti have reached Punta Almansa in 4 hours and 39 minutes!

Sergi Fiori and Juan Emilio Fernandez, who could not make two days ago, have also crossed today.

Congratulations to all!

The second day in the Straits of Gibraltar was much harder than the previous one, with strong currents that complicated and lengthened the crossing.

Sergi Fiori, Juan Emilio Fernandez, Xavier Usas and Benedetto Manassero jumped into the water at 8:00 am and only after more than 7 hours swimming and 28 km of route, two of them reached Ceuta. They were Xavier and Benedetto.

Sergi Fiori and Juan Emilio had to pull out after 6 hours and 21 minutes to not jeopardize the swim of his teammates. They deserve all our admiration for his gesture. In our view, you made it!

Josep Carreres, Paco Abarca, Carles Llucià and Ignasi Ros made their dream come true on Monday: crossing the Straits of Gibraltar. 4 hours and 3 minutes was the time it took to reach it, with good marine conditions and excellent pace.

Aiming to reach Punta Cires swimming the waters of the Straits of Gibraltar, the first group of swim addicts that this week will try to make this dream come true is now in Tarifa.

Gone are months of training, coordinated by our coach Jonathan Gomez, to reach the necessary training level to achieve this challenge.

Registrations are opened for the 5th Zoggs Medes Islands for la Marató de TV3, one of the most emblematic swims of the Neda el Món calendar, which reaches its 5th edition this year.

The event will be held on November 2nd in L'Estartit and as a novelty of this year, it will include a competitive and a non-competitive version of both distances (5,200 m and 3,400 m).

We at Neda el Món do not want to give up the non-competitive concept we have always promulgated, but at the same time we have listened to the demands of those swim addicts asking for some healthy open water competition.

Once again it will be a day for solidarity, since 100% of the profits will go to la Marató de TV3, this year dedicated to heart diseases. A good reason to share a fantastic day in the unique environment of the Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes and  Baix Ter.

We are sorry to announce bad news for the swim addicts, the institutions in Ribamontán al Mar and Neda el Món, since we are forced to postpone sine die the 1st Santa Marina Island swim.

The reason is that, after weeks of negotiations with the Maritime Authority of Santander, it has not authorized us to perform the swim because of the coincidence with the ISAF Sailing World Cup, taking place in the Cantabrian capital from 8 to 21 September. Although we believe the two events do not affect each other, the position of the Maritime Authority is inflexible.

Today August 4th we are opening registrations for the 5th Zoggs Medes Islands for la Marató de TV3, one of the most emblematic swims of the Neda el Món calendar, which reaches its 5th edition this year.

The event will be held on November 2nd in L'Estartit and as a novelty of this year, it will include a competitive and a non-competitive version of both distances (5,200 m and 3,400 m).

We at Neda el Món do not want to give up the non-competitive concept we have always promulgated, but at the same time we have listened to the demands of those swim addicts asking for some healthy open water competition.

Once again it will be a day for solidarity, since 100% of the profits will go to la Marató de TV3, this year dedicated to heart diseases. A good reason to share a fantastic day in the unique environment of the Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes and  Baix Ter.

So, registrations are now open, you just have to choose the distance and the type! Come on, swim addict! Either competing or not, the 5th Zoggs Medes Islands for la Marató de TV3 will be a celebration of solidarity and open water swimming!

Santa Marina is a beautiful island just off the spectacular beach of Loredo, located 3 km from the Bay of Santander. The routes of the swim have been designed around the island: the first one goes around once (3.2 km), and the second one goes twice (5.3 km).

The small town of Combarro, in Pontevedra, welcomed with open arms the first Swim the World event in Galicia: the Combarro · Tambo Island swim.

The crossing, non-competitive amb with distances of 3,500 m and 5,000 m, was attended by nearly 100 swim addicts from around the world (Spain, Portugal, England, Brazil, ...) willing to reach by swimming the beautiful Tambo Island.

The morning was misty rose (this is Galicia, gentlemen) but soon the visibility improved and the whole team, participants and onlookers could enjoy an excellent day of sun and open waters.

A total of 423 swimmers participated yesterday in the 4th edition of the SwimBarcelona Sailfish swim, where all the participants, organizers and volunteers were able to enjoy an excellent day: good weather, good sea and above all a great atmosphere!

The swim was held according to the planning and only a swimmer had to retire because of dizziness.

As usual most swimmers chose the long distance, 5,700 meters, but there was also a very large group enrolled for the 3,600 meters.

We take this opportunity to thank all participants in the event, thanks for trusting Neda el Món when it comes to enjoy your passion for the open waters!

This Sunday June 15 we invite you to swim across the border from France to Spain: such a challenge you can still sign in for!

We’ll start at Cerbère (France), following the Cap de Cerbère and enjoying part of the Marenda Coast. The challenge will end at the lovely Portbou village, protected by a rock-cut bay.
